Background:

Limited information exists on teaching palliative care to entry-level physical therapy students.
Palliative care education is crucial for preparing physical therapists to care for patients with life-limiting illnesses.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the impact of an undergraduate palliative care course on entry-level physical therapy students' preparedness.
To assess changes in knowledge, confidence, and attitudes towards palliative care practice.

Main Methods:

A survey instrument, a modified questionnaire, was used to assess student preparedness.
Third-year undergraduate physical therapy students participated in palliative care learning modules.
The study involved all entry-level students enrolled in the "Physiotherapy Through Lifestages" course.

Main Results:

Participation in the course increased students' self-rated knowledge and confidence in palliative care.
The course provided a valuable resource for presenting palliative care content.
Attitudes and emotional responses related to palliative care practice were less influenced by the course.

Conclusions:

The palliative care course positively impacted students' knowledge and confidence.
Further research is needed to understand emotional preparedness and optimal timing for palliative care education.
The findings suggest a need for continued development of palliative care curricula in physical therapy programs.
