Partially covered self-expandable metal stents (pcSEMS) offer longer patency than plastic stents (PS) for malignant biliary obstruction. However, pcSEMS do not improve survival or quality of life in palliative patients.

- pcSEMS can be considered for patients requiring longer stent patency without increased complication rates.
