Abduction dislocation of the knee joint--a case study

This study details an unusual knee dislocation case in a young man. Surgical repair of ligament damage led to excellent knee function, even without cruciate ligament reconstruction.

- Arthroscopic surgery included joint lavage and repair of the medial ligamento-capsular complex.
- Despite the absence of cruciate ligament reconstruction, the patient achieved a very good functional outcome.
- Functional assessment three years post-injury demonstrated significant recovery.
Implications:
- This case suggests that repair of associated soft tissue injuries may yield favorable outcomes in certain complex knee dislocations.
- It challenges the necessity of immediate cruciate ligament reconstruction in all cases of combined ligamentous injury.
- Further research into non-reconstructive management of complex knee dislocations is warranted.
