Reverse Transcription quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR) is the gold standard for detecting enteric viruses in food and water. A new reference method (ISO/TS 15216) aids in validating virus detection, but differentiating infectious viruses remains a challenge for risk assessment.
