Objective:
To assess whether the dosage of Shenmai injection influences renal function.
Method:
Analysis of hospital information system (HIS) data from 18 national hospitals using Shenmai injections. Patients were aged between 18 to 80 years old. Blood analysis of creatinine and serum urea nitrogen was undertaken 7 days before and after exceeding the maximum recommended dose of 100 mL of Shenmai injection. Propensity score method was used to compare the differences between the two groups of renal function scores.
Result:
The differences in abnormal changes in creatinine and serum urea nitrogen levels between the groups before and after exceeding the recommended dose was not statistically significant, but abnormal changes were detected.
Conclusion:
Based on the available data we did not find that exceeding the recommended dose of Shenmai injection had a significantly deleterious effect on renal function. However, caution should be applied in its clinical use.

Renal Failure: Dose Adjustments
Reduced renal clearance and elimination rate are common outcomes of renal impairment. These alterations lead to a prolonged elimination half-life and an altered apparent volume of distribution for drugs. As a result, dosage adjustments are typically necessary to maintain optimal drug levels in the body.
However, dosage adjustments...
