Integrated Healthcare System01:20

Integrated Healthcare System

2.4K
An integrated healthcare system (IHS) is a set of organizations that provides for or arranges to provide coordinated and continuous service to a defined population. The IHS takes responsibility for that particular population's health status and outcome, both clinically and fiscally. An integrated healthcare system is a well-organized, well-coordinated, and collaborative network. The integrated delivery system is a network that connects different healthcare providers to deliver organized,...

Methods of Documentation VII: EMR

1.5K
Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) primarily center around electronically documenting patients' health information within a single healthcare organization or practice. They contain essential clinical data related to a patient's medical history, diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, lab results, and other pertinent information relevant to the specific encounter or episode of care. EMRs are designed to streamline documentation and workflow processes within individual healthcare...

Methods of Documentation VI: Case Management Model

924
The case management model is a multidisciplinary approach that involves healthcare professionals from diverse disciplines, such as physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers, and pharmacists, working collaboratively to address the various needs of patients. Each healthcare professional brings unique expertise and perspectives, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the patient's condition and tailoring treatment plans accordingly.
For example, a patient with a chronic...

Issues And Trends In Healthcare Delivery System

6.5K
The issues and trends in healthcare delivery are constantly changing. The COVID-19 pandemic is one recent issue that wreaked havoc on healthcare systems, causing a shortage of healthcare workers, high demand for medicines and supplies, and increased medical expenditure due to a lack of insurance. Other issues include rising healthcare costs and care fragmentation.
Cost Containment
Payment for healthcare services has historically promoted adoption of costly and often unnecessary or inefficient...

Area of Science:

  • Health Informatics
  • Software Engineering

Background:

  • Electronic Health Records (EHRs) require significant construction costs.
  • Interoperability and future-proofing are key challenges in EHR system development.
  • Existing EHR implementations have not widely adopted scripting languages for development.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe a novel Web application framework for EHR systems.
  • To reduce the construction costs associated with EHR systems.
  • To leverage agile development methodologies for EHR implementation.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized the Ruby on Rails (RoR) framework for agile development.
  • Implemented EHR systems in conformity with openEHR specifications.
  • Developed an Archetype Definition Language parser and RoR scaffold generator.

Main Results:

  • Successfully implemented most openEHR specifications.
  • Developed a RoR scaffold generator from archetype models.
  • Resolved most emergent technical challenges during implementation.

Conclusions:

  • An agile EHR Web framework using RoR has been developed.
  • The framework enables building EHR systems from archetype models.
  • Archetype models demonstrate feasibility for semantic interoperability and EHR system construction.
