Traumatic flexor digitorum superficialis and A2-A3 pulley rupture: case report

Background:

• Traumatic injuries to the flexor tendons and pulleys can significantly impair hand function.
• Simultaneous rupture of the flexor digitorum superficialis tendon and adjacent pulleys presents a complex surgical challenge.

Observation:

• A case involving simultaneous traumatic rupture of the flexor digitorum superficialis tendon and the A2 and A3 flexor tendon pulleys was observed.
• The injury resulted in significant functional deficit of the affected digit.

Findings:

• Excision of the damaged flexor digitorum superficialis tendon was performed.
• Reconstruction of the ruptured A2 and A3 flexor tendon pulleys was successfully achieved.

Implications:

• This case demonstrates the feasibility of surgical intervention for combined flexor tendon and pulley injuries.
• Successful management led to the restoration of normal function in the affected finger.
• The findings highlight the importance of prompt and accurate surgical repair in managing complex hand trauma.
