Certain genetic variations in the Interleukin (IL)-10 gene are linked to an increased risk of recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). These single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) may influence susceptibility to this common oral inflammatory condition.

- Significantly higher frequencies of the T allele at -819 (p=0.006) and the A allele at -592 (p<0.001) were observed in RAS patients.
- RAS patients showed significantly higher frequencies of the IL10 GA genotype at -1082 (p=0.007), CA genotype at -592 (p=0.001), and CT genotype at -819 (p=0.001).
Conclusions:
- Specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the IL10 gene are associated with an increased predisposition to recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS).
- These findings suggest a potential genetic link between IL10 gene variations and RAS susceptibility.
- Further multicenter studies are warranted to validate these results and confirm the association.
