Summary

Patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) show altered saliva composition, including higher glucose and potassium levels and lower flow rates. These salivary changes suggest salivary gland impact in IDDM but don't correlate with dry mouth or serum glucose levels.
