Background:

Nursing is vital for health upkeep, yet many graduates lack professional esteem.
This impacts service quality and potential utilization.
Addressing perception is crucial for nursing advancement.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess nursing students' perceptions of their profession.
To identify factors influencing professional esteem among nursing students.
To explore career preferences within nursing.

Main Methods:

A semi-structured questionnaire was administered to 530 undergraduate and diploma nursing students.
Data was collected from 12 selected colleges and schools in Punjab.
Quantitative and qualitative data analysis was performed.

Main Results:

A majority of students viewed nursing as a respectful profession.
Diploma nursing students showed lower professional regard compared to undergraduates.
Less than half of the students preferred bedside nursing careers.

Conclusions:

Enhancing the nursing work environment can positively shift professional perception.
Improving the perception of nursing is essential for maximizing nurse potential.
Targeted interventions may be needed for diploma students to foster higher professional esteem.
