    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the potential of local dairy sludge as a low-cost biosorbent for lead ion adsorption from aqueous solutions.
    • To optimize adsorption conditions and evaluate the performance of dairy sludge under varying experimental parameters.

    Main Methods:

    • Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to determine the effects of temperature, initial lead concentration, and ionic strength on lead uptake.
    • Adsorption equilibrium data were fitted using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models.
    • Brunauer-Emett-Teller (BET) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analyses were employed for biosorbent characterization.

    Main Results:

    • Lead ion adsorption capacity increased from 149 to 224 mg/g with a temperature rise at pH 5.
    • The Langmuir isotherm model provided the best fit for the experimental adsorption data.
    • Ionic strength variations showed minimal impact on lead sorption, except for a 20% decrease with CaCl2. Binary systems with Cd+2 ions had a limited effect on lead sorption.

    Conclusions:

    • Local dairy sludge demonstrates significant potential as an effective and affordable biosorbent for lead removal from wastewater.
    • The findings suggest dairy sludge as a viable alternative to commercial adsorbents for industrial effluent treatment.
