Summary

T cell immunoglobulin and mucin-domain containing molecule 3 (Tim-3) is elevated in diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients. This immune checkpoint molecule on T cells correlates with advanced disease and B symptoms, suggesting its role in DLBCL development.

Area of Science:

  • Immunology
  • Oncology
  • Hematology

Background:

  • T cell immunoglobulin and mucin-domain containing molecule 3 (Tim-3) is a key regulator of immune tolerance.
  • Tim-3 functions by suppressing T cell activation and proliferation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the role of Tim-3 in the development of diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL).

Main Methods:

  • Flow cytometry was used to analyze Tim-3 expression on peripheral CD4+ and CD8+ T cells.
  • 40 newly diagnosed DLBCL patients and 30 healthy donors were included in the study.

Main Results:

  • Tim-3 expression was significantly higher on both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in DLBCL patients compared to healthy controls.
  • Elevated Tim-3 levels on T cells correlated with advanced tumor stages, bone marrow involvement, and B symptoms in DLBCL patients.
  • Tim-3 expression on CD4+ T cells showed a positive correlation with CD8+ T cells in DLBCL patients.

Conclusions:

  • Tim-3 expression is upregulated in DLBCL patients.
  • Increased Tim-3 on T cells is associated with disease progression and specific clinical features in DLBCL.
  • These findings suggest Tim-3 plays a role in the pathogenesis of DLBCL.
