Abstract:
The authors discuss the term, significance and application of certain anthropometric planes commonly used in prosthodontics. The angular and linear relations of the most frequently used planes, obtained on the basis of lateral cephalogram, are presented. Some problems that arise with the use of certain planes of reference when setting the cast in the articulator are also mentioned, and two methods for error compensation, when applying the axis-orbital plane, are suggested. It is also pointed out that there are misunderstanding and confusion in literature, with which the reader is confronted, which originate either in the use of different anthropometric planes or are due to non-citing of the plane used in a certain investigation.
