Purpose of the Study:

  • 25 patients undergoing bariatric procedures (gastric bypass or sleeve resection) were studied.
  • Bioelectrical impedance analysis and handgrip strength were measured preoperatively and for 4 months postoperatively.
  • Analysis of variance was used to track parameter changes.

  • Significant reductions in body mass index and body fat were observed.
  • Extracellular mass, BCM, and lean mass remained stable.
