[Tungiasis and tetanus at the University Hospital Center in Brazzaville]
1Service d'Infectiologie, C.H.U. de Brazzaville, Congo.
Abstract:
Just like other tropical countries, Congo is not free from Tetanus. Over a period of 11 months the authors treated 44 cases where tetanus entered by various means. The removal of a chick-flea (Tunga penetrans) leaves a hole through which the tetanus spore can penetrate: this accounted for 25% of the cases (11 cases). In the group under observation, no death attributable to tetanus occurred.
