A new Spanish questionnaire, the Computer-Vision Symptom Scale (CVSS17), effectively measures computer-related visual and ocular symptoms in computer workers. This validated tool demonstrates good reliability for quantifying these common digital eye strain issues.

Background:

  • Computer use is widespread, leading to increased prevalence of computer-related visual and ocular symptoms (CRVOS).
  • Existing measurement tools may not adequately capture the spectrum of CRVOS experienced by computer users.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and validate a Spanish-language questionnaire to measure computer-related visual and ocular symptoms (CRVOS).
  • To create a reliable and valid scale for assessing digital eye strain in computer workers.

Main Methods:

  • A pilot questionnaire was developed based on literature and expert input.
  • The Rasch model and conventional statistics were used to refine the questionnaire with data from 636 participants.
  • Validity and reliability were assessed using Rasch fit statistics, PCA, DIF, and correlation with a visual discomfort scale (VDS).
