A new benzene ester, royleanumoate, was isolated from T. royleanum alongside known compounds. Advanced NMR techniques confirmed the structures of these natural products.
Area of Science:
- Phytochemistry
- Natural Product Chemistry
- Organic Chemistry
Background:
- The plant T. royleanum Wall. ex Benth is a source of bioactive compounds.
- Benzene esters and triterpenoids are classes of natural products with diverse biological activities.
Purpose of the Study:
- To isolate and characterize new and known compounds from T. royleanum.
- To elucidate the chemical structures using advanced spectroscopic methods.
Main Methods:
- Isolation of compounds using chromatographic techniques.
- Structure elucidation employing two-dimensional Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (2D NMR) spectroscopy.
- Specific 2D NMR techniques utilized include Heteronuclear Multiple Bond Correlation (HMBC), Heteronuclear Multiple Quantum Coherence (HMQC), and Correlation Spectroscopy (COSY).
Main Results:
- One novel benzene ester, designated royleanumoate (1), was successfully isolated.
- Two known compounds, 3,4-dihydroxymethyl benzoate (2) and oleanolic acid (3), were also identified.
- The structures of all isolated compounds were confirmed through comprehensive spectroscopic analysis.
Conclusions:
- The chemical investigation of T. royleanum yielded a new benzene ester and two known compounds.
- The structural assignments were rigorously confirmed by detailed 2D NMR experiments.
- This study expands the known phytochemical profile of T. royleanum.
