Abstract:
Nucleosomes retained in spermatozoa may influence development and epigenetic inheritance. In this issue of Developmental Cell, Samans et al. (2014) and Carone et al. (2014) provide evidence for the predominant retention of sperm nucleosomes in gene deserts, necessitating a reevaluation of the prevailing notion claiming their enrichment over developmental promoters.
