Summary

Pancreatic hemolymphangioma, a rare vascular tumor, presents diagnostic challenges. Surgical resection, like pancreatoduodenectomy, is crucial for managing this benign cystic pancreatic tumor.

Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Surgical Oncology
  • Vascular Malformations

Background:

  • Pancreatic hemolymphangioma is a rare tumor originating from vascular and lymphatic malformations.
  • Only eight cases have been previously reported in the literature.

Observation:

  • A 52-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain and early satiety.
  • Initial CT scan suggested a hemangioma; embolization was performed.
  • Subsequent CT confirmed the tumor confined to the pancreatic head.

Findings:

  • Pathology confirmed a pancreatic head hemolymphangioma.
  • Pylorus-preserving pancreatoduodenectomy was successfully performed.

Implications:

  • Diagnosis and management of cystic pancreatic tumors, including hemolymphangioma, can be complex.
  • Surgical intervention, such as pancreatoduodenectomy, is recommended for definitive treatment.
