Summary

Bone scans can show abnormal joint uptake in Lyme arthritis, particularly in the wrists and hands. These findings, while nonspecific, suggest Lyme disease should be considered in diagnosing bone scan abnormalities.

  • A patient with Lyme arthritis underwent triple-phase technetium-99m MDP bone imaging.
  • Imaging included limited views of wrists and hands, along with delayed whole-body scans.

Findings:

  • Abnormal joint uptake was observed in the wrists and hands across all three imaging phases.
  • Delayed whole-body images revealed increased activity in other affected joints.
  • These scintigraphic findings are nonspecific and have been noted in various rheumatologic conditions.
