Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a Rasch-based tool for Multidimensional Screening in Child Development (MuSiC).
  • To create a screening tool for children aged 0-3 years across five developmental domains.

Main Methods:

  • Constructed an item bank from three common screening tools.
  • Validated items using Rasch analysis on a sample of 632 children (3-35.5 months).
  • Assessed diagnostic validity using receiver operating characteristic curves.

Main Results:

  • Developed MuSiC, a 75-item screening tool covering cognitive, language, gross motor, fine motor, and socioadaptive skills.
  • Achieved acceptable diagnostic validity for all domains in children aged >11.5 months.
  • Infant stage (≤11.5 months) showed limitations in diagnostic validity.

Conclusions:

  • MuSiC is suitable as a universal, multidomain screening tool for children aged 1-3 years during well-child visits.
  • Further refinement of items is necessary to improve screening validity for infants.
