Background:

  • Dendritic cells (DCs) are crucial for initiating cytotoxic T cell (CTL) responses.
  • Resident lung DCs comprise CD103(+) and CD11b(+) subsets, with CD103(+) DCs traditionally considered the primary cross-presenting cells for CTL induction.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the differential activation and function of lung DC subsets (CD103(+) and CD11b(+)) in response to specific Toll-like receptor (TLR) agonists.
  • To determine if DC subset function in CTL induction is predetermined by lineage or influenced by pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs).

Main Methods:

  • Activation of endogenous DCs using TLR3 agonist (Poly I:C) and TLR7 agonist (R848).
