Background:

The demand for psychiatric-mental health nurses is increasing.
Current nursing education requires innovative approaches to prepare students for complex mental health care.
Baccalaureate nursing programs need effective strategies to equip future nurses with essential psychiatric skills.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe the development and implementation of the "Mental Health Ward," a novel simulated psychiatric nursing experience.
To evaluate the effectiveness of this simulation in preparing undergraduate nursing students for mental health care.
To share lessons learned from faculty and students in creating this innovative educational model.

Main Methods:

Development of a simulated hospital environment called the "Mental Health Ward."
Utilization of standardized patients and role-playing scenarios for immersive learning.
Integration of full mission simulation to practice core psychiatric nursing skills.

Main Results:

Students engaged in realistic psychiatric diagnoses and clinical skill practice.
