This study introduces a combined GPS/GLONASS Precise Point Positioning (PPP) method with fixed GPS ambiguities. This approach significantly enhances positioning accuracy and reduces convergence time compared to GPS-only methods.
Area of Science:
- Geodesy
- Satellite Navigation Systems
Background:
- Precise Point Positioning (PPP) often uses ambiguity-float solutions, limiting performance.
- Integer ambiguity resolution (IAR) in PPP enhances accuracy but is typically GPS-only.
- Integrating GPS and GLONASS can improve float ambiguity estimates and IAR success.
Purpose of the Study:
- To present a combined GPS/GLONASS PPP with fixed GPS ambiguities (GGPPP-FGA) approach.
- To evaluate the performance of GGPPP-FGA against GPS-only solutions.
- To introduce an improved Minimum Constellation Method (MCM) for GPS ambiguity fixing.
Main Methods:
- Developed a GGPPP-FGA approach fixing GPS ambiguities and keeping GLONASS ambiguities as floats.
- Implemented an improved Minimum Constellation Method (MCM) for efficient GPS ambiguity fixing.
- Analyzed datasets from 20 global stations over two days, processing three-hour spans for three scenarios (GPS float, GPS fixed, GGPPP-FGA).
Main Results:
- GPS ambiguity-fixed resolutions significantly outperform GPS ambiguity-float solutions.
- GGPPP-FGA improved positioning accuracy by 38% (East), 25% (North), and 44% (Up) over GPS-only fixed solutions.
- GGPPP-FGA reduced convergence time by 36% (East), 36% (North), and 29% (Up), and decreased Time To First Fix (TTFF) by 27%.
Conclusions:
- Combined GPS/GLONASS PPP with fixed GPS ambiguities offers substantial improvements in positioning accuracy and convergence speed.
- The improved MCM enhances the efficiency of GPS ambiguity fixing within the combined system.
- Statistical tests confirmed the significance of performance enhancements provided by the GGPPP-FGA approach.
