Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways.

Osteoclasts in Bone Remodeling

Osteoclasts are cells responsible for bone resorption and remodeling. They originate from hematopoietic progenitor cells present in the bone marrow. Numerous progenitor cells fuse to form multinucleated cells, each with 10-20 nuclei. A single osteoclast has a diameter of 150 to 200 µM. These cells have ruffled borders that break down the underlying bone tissue and release minerals such as calcium into the blood in bone resorption. Background:

Osteoporosis knowledge is crucial for effective bone health management.
Existing knowledge tests require updates to reflect current evidence-based recommendations.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the psychometric properties of a revised Osteoporosis Knowledge Test (OKT).
To ensure the updated OKT aligns with recent bone health guidelines.

Main Methods:

The revised OKT was administered to 866 participants in an online bone health study.
Rasch analysis was employed to assess the psychometric properties of the test.

Main Results:

The revised OKT exhibited excellent internal consistency (item separation index: 12.68, reliability: .98).
Person reliability was strong (person separation index: 2.06, reliability: .81).
Most items demonstrated good fit within the Rasch model, indicating overall test quality.

Conclusions:

The revised Osteoporosis Knowledge Test offers sufficient reliability and construct validity.
The updated OKT is a suitable instrument for measuring osteoporosis knowledge based on current recommendations.
