    • Effective disaster-ready policies are essential for patient safety and continuous care in healthcare facilities.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To analyze hospital water consumption patterns.
    • To prioritize essential hospital operations during water supply disruptions.
    • To determine the minimum water requirements for maintaining critical functions.

    Main Methods:

    • A business impact analysis (BIA) questionnaire was developed by hospital staff.
    • Operations were categorized into ranks (S, A, B) based on patient impact and continuity needs.
    • Recovery time objectives (RTO) were established, and actual water use and substitute method efficiency were assessed.

    Main Results:

    • 24 water-using activities across eight departments were identified, with an estimated daily consumption of 326 m³.
    • Rank S (critical) operations accounted for 20% of water use, Rank A (essential) for 51%, and Rank B (non-essential) for 29%.
    • With a 4-day RTO, available water (130 m³/day) met critical needs, and 81% of substitute methods were utilized for S and A operations.

    Conclusions:

    • This study is the first to apply BIA for prioritizing hospital operations during water supply suspensions.
    • Understanding operational priorities and minimum water needs is crucial for hospitals facing unexpected adverse events.
    • Implementing BIA enhances a hospital's resilience and ability to maintain medical treatment during disasters.
