Immediate direct-to-implant breast reconstruction using anatomical implants

Background:

• A novel form-stable, anatomically shaped silicone gel breast implant was launched in Korea in 2012.
• While promising for aesthetic augmentation, its utility in breast reconstruction remained undocumented in Korea.

Purpose of the Study:

• To evaluate the early outcomes of using the Natrelle Style 410 anatomic breast implant for breast reconstruction.
• To assess the aesthetic results and complication profile in patients undergoing immediate breast reconstruction.

Main Methods:

• Thirty patients (31 breasts) underwent immediate breast reconstruction using the Natrelle Style 410 implant and acellular dermal matrix.
• Procedures were performed following skin-sparing mastectomies between November 2012 and April 2013.

Main Results:

• Mean resection volume was 240 mL, with mean implant size of 217 mL.
• Acceptable aesthetic outcomes were achieved, with no instances of rippling, hematoma, or seroma.
• Minor complications included one case each of infection and skin thinning, and three cases of wound dehiscence (one surgical, two conservative).

Conclusions:

• Anatomic breast implants provide superior aesthetic results compared to round implants in breast reconstruction.
• The form-stable anatomic implant is deemed suitable for breast reconstruction, demonstrating a favorable early safety and efficacy profile.
