Background:

Scapulothoracic dissociation is a rare and severe injury involving the separation of the scapula from the thoracic cage.
It is frequently associated with significant neurovascular injuries, including brachial plexus and vascular damage.
The prognosis for scapulothoracic dissociation is generally poor, especially when neurovascular deficits are present.

Radiographic and clinical evaluation of the injury.

Review of literature concerning scapulothoracic dissociation and associated fractures.

Main Results:

The patient presented with scapulothoracic dissociation, a comminuted scapula fracture, acromioclavicular joint disruption, and avulsion fractures of thoracic vertebrae (T3-T5).
Crucially, the patient exhibited no neurovascular deficits.
This combination of injuries represents a rare variant of scapulothoracic dissociation.

Conclusions:

Scapulothoracic dissociation can occur with complex fractures but without neurovascular compromise.
The management and prognosis may differ in cases lacking neurovascular deficits.
Further research into the biomechanics and outcomes of rare scapulothoracic dissociation variants is warranted.
