    Background:

    • Gingival inflammation is a common oral health issue.
    • Plaque accumulation is a primary etiological factor in gingivitis.
    • Understanding the dynamic interplay between oral hygiene, plaque, and gingival status is essential for effective prevention and treatment strategies.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the dynamic changes in gingival inflammatory status during periods of induced plaque accumulation and subsequent oral hygiene.
    • To analyze the relationship between plaque levels and gingivitis incidence and resolution.
    • To model the rates of gingival inflammation and recovery.

    Main Methods:

    • A 2-week oral hygiene abstinence period followed by a period of reinstituted oral hygiene in 42 volunteers.
    • Monitoring of plaque accumulation and gingival inflammatory status at multiple sites.

    • While plaque accumulation correlates with increased gingivitis, the direct association is complex and influenced by dynamic rates.
