The interaction between macrophages and suppressor cells in immunological maturation in mice

The immunological immaturity at birth characteristic of species such as the mouse has no certain explanation. Here Bertie Argyris suggests that in mice it is a consequence of high suppressor-cell activity and an absence of macrophage activity. Gradual alterations in the balance of these activities account for the gradual emergence of immunocompetence.
