Abstract:
Here Ronald Stevens discusses recent work in which immunization of humans with tetanus toxoid in vivo has been combined with analyses of specific antibody production in vitro to study the dynamics of B-lymphocyte function in secondary humoral immune responses. These studies have shown that multiple B-cell subsets are generated following immunization, some of which can be rendered hyporesponsive in vivo by repetitive immunizations or in vitro by treatment with antigen.
