    Area of Science:

    • Infectious Diseases
    • Pharmacology

    Background:

    • Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic.
    • Effective treatment of diverse bacterial infections is crucial.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ciprofloxacin in treating various infections.

    Main Methods:

    • A multicenter study involving 30 patients.
    • Patients received ciprofloxacin at a mean daily dosage of 1000 mg for a mean duration of 10.6 days.
    • Infections included microbiologically proven and chronic cases.

    Main Results:

    • Bacteriologic cure/improvement was observed in 92.3% of microbiologically proven infections.
    • Clinical cure/improvement was achieved in 88.9% of all 30 infections.
    • Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) occurred in 16% of patients, with only two definitely related to ciprofloxacin.

    Conclusions:

    • Ciprofloxacin is an effective and generally well-tolerated antibiotic for various infections.
    • Low rates of ADRs and discontinuation suggest a favorable safety profile.
