Factorial Design02:01

Factorial Design

16.0K
Factorial Analysis is an experimental design that applies Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical procedures to examine a change in a dependent variable due to more than one independent variable, also known as factors. Changes in worker productivity can be reasoned, for example, to be influenced by salary and other conditions, such as skill level. One way to test this hypothesis is by categorizing salary into three levels (low, moderate, and high) and skills sets into two levels (entry level...

Confirmation Biases01:31

Confirmation Biases

8.6K
The confirmation bias is the tendency to focus on information that confirms our existing beliefs and ignore information that is inconsistent with our expectations. For example, if you think that your professor is not very nice, you notice all of the instances of rude behavior exhibited by the professor while ignoring the countless pleasant interactions he is involved in on a daily basis. Have you ever fallen prey to the confirmation bias, either as the source or target of such bias?

Reliability and Validity01:29

Reliability and Validity

14.4K
Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways.

Cause and Effect01:53

Cause and Effect

12.7K
While variables are sometimes correlated because one does cause the other, it could also be that some other factor, a confounding variable, is actually causing the systematic movement in our variables of interest. For instance, as sales in ice cream increase, so does the overall rate of crime. Is it possible that indulging in your favorite flavor of ice cream could send you on a crime spree? Or, after committing crime do you think you might decide to treat yourself to a cone?

One-Way ANOVA: Equal Sample Sizes01:15

One-Way ANOVA: Equal Sample Sizes

4.5K
One-Way ANOVA can be performed on three or more samples with equal or unequal sample sizes. When one-way ANOVA is performed on two datasets with samples of equal sizes, it can be easily observed that the computed F statistic is highly sensitive to the sample mean.
Different sample means can result in different values for the variance estimate: variance between samples. This is because the variance between samples is calculated as the product of the sample size and the variance between the...

Cattell's 16 Personality Factors01:24

Cattell's 16 Personality Factors

3.4K
Raymond Cattell's trait theory offers a structured framework for understanding personality by distinguishing between two critical traits: surface and source traits. Surface traits are observable patterns of behavior, such as indecisiveness, anxiety, and irrational fears. These traits are less stable, varying across situations and over time. This means that they are less helpful in understanding the deeper aspects of an individual's personality.
In contrast, source traits are the...

Summary

This study validated the Evidence-Based Practice Attitude Scale (EBPAS) in a large human service agency. Findings suggest modifications to the scale improve its fit for measuring attitudes toward evidence-based practices.

Area of Science:

  • Psychology
  • Organizational Behavior
  • Mental Health Services Research

Background:

  • Adopting evidence-based practices (EBPs) in mental health organizations faces significant barriers.
  • The Evidence-Based Practice Attitude Scale (EBPAS) is a key tool for assessing worker attitudes towards EBPs.
  • Previous research established a four-factor model for the EBPAS.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To conduct a confirmatory factor analysis of the EBPAS in a large child and family human service agency.
  • To evaluate alternative models of the EBPAS, including modifications to the Divergence subscale.
  • To investigate measurement and structural invariance of the EBPAS across different service program types.

Main Methods:

  • Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the EBPAS using data from 1,273 workers.
  • Comparison of a four-factor model, a modified four-factor model, and a five-factor model.
  • Multiple group analysis to assess measurement and structural invariance between community-based and residential programs.

Main Results:

  • The original four-factor model's factor loadings were replicated.
  • Alternative models, including a five-factor model, demonstrated a better fit to the data than the original model.
  • Measurement invariance was supported, but differences in factor means and correlations were observed between program types.

Conclusions:

  • The EBPAS is a reliable measure, but modifications may enhance its utility in specific organizational contexts.
  • The findings support the use of an adapted EBPAS structure for better understanding worker attitudes.
  • Differences in attitudes and their correlates highlight the need for context-specific EBP implementation strategies.
