Summary

Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling is crucial for mouse trophoblast stem (TS) cells but not human blastocysts. Human TS cell derivation may occur later in development, with early placenta cytotrophoblasts showing potential for FGF-dependent TS cell generation.
