Cutaneous human papillomaviruses (HPVs), particularly beta-HPVs, may co-carcinogen with UV radiation in skin cancer development. Their presence is higher in early-stage actinic keratosis than in squamous cell carcinoma, suggesting a role in initial tumor stages.
