Choroidal thickness, not retinal thickness, is linked to visual function in high myopia. Measuring choroidal thickness offers better insights into this condition.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between choroidal thickness and retinal sensitivity in individuals with high myopia.
  • To determine if choroidal thickness is a better indicator of visual function than retinal thickness in high myopia.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional study involving 77 patients (96 eyes) with high myopia.
  • Retinal sensitivity was assessed using macular integrity assessment microperimetry.
  • Choroidal thickness was measured in the macular area via optical coherence tomography.

Main Results:

  • Mean choroidal thickness directly correlated with retinal sensitivity (r=0.306, P=0.004) and visual acuity.
