Background:

Pattern Identification (PI) is crucial in Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM).
Standardization of PI is needed for consistent research and clinical application.
Current PI methods vary significantly among practitioners and researchers.

Purpose of the Study:

To convene an international meeting for standardizing PI in TEAM.
To gather insights from global TEAM specialists on PI research.
To discuss methodologies for accurate PI and future research strategies.

Main Methods:

An international brainstorming session was held on October 1, 2013, in Daejeon, South Korea.
Eight presentations covered diagnostic criteria, objective measurement tools, and PI research strategies.
Discussion sessions facilitated sharing of information on PI diagnosis and methodology.

Main Results:

Key insights were gathered from international TEAM specialists regarding PI standardization.
Discussions highlighted the need for standardized diagnostic criteria, such as for blood stasis syndrome.
Future strategies and objective measurement tools for PI research were explored.

Conclusions:
