Endurance training (ET) can protect the cardiovascular system from acute smoking. Even short-term exercise training attenuates the negative effects of cigarette smoke on blood pressure and heart rate.

Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the early effects of endurance training (ET) on systolic blood pressure (SBP), heart rate (HR), and rate pressure-product (RPP) following acute cigarette smoke exposure.
Main Methods:
- Twenty male Wistar rats were divided into trained (TEx) and control (CEx) groups.
- TEx rats underwent 2 weeks of swimming exercise, while CEx rats remained sedentary.
- Both groups were exposed to cigarette smoke, and cardiovascular parameters were measured before and after exposure.
Main Results:
- No significant differences in SBP, HR, or RPP were observed between groups after the training protocol but before smoke exposure.
- Following acute cigarette smoke exposure, cardiovascular parameters significantly increased only in the control (sedentary) group.
- The trained group showed attenuated cardiovascular responses to acute smoking.
Conclusions:
- Endurance training can attenuate the adverse cardiovascular effects of acute cigarette smoke exposure.
- Even a short period of training offers protection against the immediate cardiovascular aggression of smoking.
- The protective effect may not be evident under basal conditions without acute smoke exposure.
