Background:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) commonly involves the lungs (80%) but can present as extrapulmonary disease in up to 20% of cases.
  • In the ear, nose, and throat (ENT) region, TB most frequently manifests as cervical lymphadenitis, occurring in approximately 95% of cases.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To analyze the incidence and characteristics of head and neck tuberculosis diagnosed in an ENT department.
  • To highlight the diagnostic utility of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) in managing ENT tuberculosis.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective study of patients diagnosed with tuberculosis in a tertiary hospital's ENT department.
  • Data collected between December 2007 and December 2013.
