Medication-resistant depression (MRD) is linked to impaired prefrontal cortex function and attention deficits. This study found reduced glucose metabolism in the prefrontal cortex of MRD patients, suggesting hypofrontality plays a key role.

- Hypofrontality, characterized by reduced prefrontal cortex activity, is a significant factor in the neuropathology of medication-resistant depression.
- Attentional deficits are closely linked to this observed hypofrontality in MRD.
