[Common bile duct stricture caused by vascular ring: a case report]
Revista Chilena De Pediatria
|February 21, 2015
Summary
A rare vascular anomaly caused a bile duct stricture in an infant, mimicking biliary atresia. Surgical intervention involving bile duct resection and hepatoduodenal bypass led to a successful outcome.
Area of Science:
- Hepatobiliary Surgery
- Pediatric Surgery
- Vascular Surgery
Background:
- Biliary atresia and choledochal cysts are common congenital bile duct malformations.
- Aberrant right hepatic artery is a frequent liver anatomical variation.
- This study focuses on a rare case of biliary obstruction caused by a vascular anomaly.

Esophageal Strictures-I: Introduction
1.3K
Esophageal strictures involve abnormal narrowing or tightening of the esophagus. They vary in length and severity, ranging from mild constriction to complete obstruction, and are classified as benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
Etiology
The primary cause of esophageal strictures is long-standing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), accounting for about 70 to 80% of adult cases. Chronic acid reflux can lead to injury and scarring of the esophageal lining, culminating in...

Endoscopic Procedures V: ERCP
6.5K
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a diagnostic procedure that combines endoscopy and fluoroscopy to diagnose and treat conditions related to the bile ducts, pancreatic ducts, and gallbladder. This procedure is beneficial for identifying and addressing blockages, gallstones, strictures, and tumors within the biliary or pancreatic systems. ERCP is both diagnostic and therapeutic, offering the ability to visualize and treat identified problems in one session.
