Denmark, a potential eHealth leader, faced challenges in public hospital electronic health record (EHR) data exchange.
Previous state-led projects struggled with EHR interoperability post-deployment.

Purpose of the Study:

To analyze the impact of organizational changes on eHealth interoperability in Danish hospitals.
To evaluate the effectiveness of regional responsibility for EHR consolidation and national health record implementation.

Main Methods:

Shifted responsibility for hospital systems, including EHR consolidation, to Danish regions.
Reduced the number of EHR systems to six by 2014.
Launched the National Health Record for a unified patient data overview.
