Initial clinical management of the HIV-infected patient

For the primary care physician, treatment of HIV-infected patients often centers on the stage of illness at which the patient first seeks care. Disease staging, which uses symptoms in its classification scheme, thus leads to evaluation and selection of appropriate therapy.
