Background:

Main Results:

  • Individuals with macronutrient intake outside the AMDRs showed a significantly higher odds ratio for hypertension (OR=1.25, 95% CI: 1.02-1.53 without medication; OR=1.25, 95% CI: 1.06-1.48 with medication).
  • This association remained significant after adjusting for numerous potential confounders.
  • The findings indicate a clear link between non-adherence to AMDRs and hypertension in the Korean adult population.

Conclusions:

  • Macronutrient intake outside the Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Ranges is significantly associated with hypertension in Korean adults.
  • AMDRs may serve as a valuable nutritional guideline for the dietary management of hypertension.
  • Further validation through prospective population-based studies is recommended to confirm these findings.
