Urologic Endoscopic Procedure: Cystoscopic Examination

6.0K
Meaning of Cystoscopic Examination:Cystoscopy is an essential diagnostic tool in urology that is used to assess the structure and function of the genitourinary system. It provides a direct view of the urethra, bladder, and, in some cases, the ureteral openings. This procedure helps detect structural abnormalities, infections, cancers, and blockages in the urinary tract. There are two types of cystoscopy:Flexible cystoscopy is commonly performed in outpatient settings due to its less invasive...

Gallbladder01:17

Gallbladder

3.3K
The gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ that plays a crucial role in our digestive system. Measuring about 10 cm in length, it is comparable in size to a kiwi fruit and is located in a hollow area on the lower surface of the liver. The gallbladder's primary function is to store and concentrate bile, a fluid produced by the liver that aids in digestion.
The gallbladder's anatomy consists of three regions: the fundus, body, and neck. Extending from the neck, the cystic duct joins...

Vesicular Tubular Clusters01:45

Vesicular Tubular Clusters

3.4K
After budding out from the ER membrane, some COPII vesicles lose their coat and fuse with one another to form larger vesicles and interconnected tubules called vesicular tubular clusters or VTCs. These clusters constitute a compartment at the ER-Golgi interface known as ERGIC (Endoplasmic Reticulum Golgi Intermediate Compartment). The ERGIC is a mobile membrane-bound cargo transport system that sorts proteins secreted from ER and delivers them to the Golgi.
With the help of motor proteins such...

    Summary

A rare mediastinal enteric cyst caused a young woman

    Area of Science:

    • Thoracic surgery
    • Gastroenterology
    • Pediatric surgery

    Background:

    • Mediastinal enteric cysts are rare congenital anomalies.
    • They can present with nonspecific symptoms, leading to diagnostic challenges.

    Observation:

    • A 20-year-old female experienced prolonged right-sided chest pain, cough, fever, and shortness of breath.
    • Physical examination revealed decreased air entry in the right chest.
    • A computed tomography scan identified a cystic lesion in the right hemithorax.

    Findings:

    • Surgical excision via posterolateral thoracotomy was performed.
    • Histopathology confirmed the lesion as a mediastinal enteric cyst.
    • The cyst contained both intestinal and pancreatic tissue.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights the importance of considering rare congenital anomalies in the differential diagnosis of persistent chest symptoms.
    • Accurate histopathological diagnosis is crucial for appropriate management of mediastinal enteric cysts.
    • Surgical resection is the definitive treatment for symptomatic mediastinal enteric cysts.
