Summary

Bilateral idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) shows higher relapse rates and treatment resistance compared to unilateral cases. Expectant management is recommended over surgery for bilateral IGM.

Background:

  • Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is a rare, benign inflammatory condition affecting the breast.
  • Bilateral IGM is uncommon, with limited data on its clinical presentation and treatment outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe the clinical features of bilateral idiopathic granulomatous mastitis.
  • To evaluate treatment outcomes for patients with bilateral IGM.

  • Retrospective review of a database of IGM cases from 2010 to 2013.
  • Inclusion criteria: histologic and clinical diagnosis of IGM in both breasts.
