Summary

Investigating vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) in ependymal cells revealed inconsistent results. One antiserum showed VIP in ependymal cells, but this was likely an artifact, not true VIP immunoreaction.

  • Immunohistochemistry was employed using two distinct polyclonal anti-VIP antisera.
  • Preabsorption tests with synthetic VIP were performed to validate staining specificity.
  • Immunostaining was analyzed in the ependymal cells of the central canal and third ventricle, as well as neuronal elements.

  • One anti-VIP antiserum exhibited strong staining in ependymal cells and neuronal elements.
