A rare case of crossed fused renal ectopia with chyluria was successfully treated. This condition, involving an L-shaped fused kidney and renal pelvis fistula, was resolved using renal pelvic instillation sclerotherapy.
Area of Science:
- Nephrology
- Urology
- Medical Case Reports
Background:
- Crossed fused renal ectopia is a congenital anomaly where both kidneys are located on one side and are fused.
- Chyluria, the presence of chyle in the urine, can be caused by various conditions, including lymphatic abnormalities and infections.
Observation:
- A patient presented with milky urine, indicative of chyluria.
- Diagnostic imaging revealed an L-shaped fused kidney, a rare form of crossed fused renal ectopia.
- A fistula connecting the renal pelvis was identified as the likely cause of chyluria.
Findings:
- The patient had a rare combination of crossed fused renal ectopia and chyluria.
- An L-shaped fused kidney and a renal pelvis fistula were confirmed as the underlying pathology.
- Renal pelvic instillation sclerotherapy proved effective in treating the condition.
Implications:
- This case highlights the importance of considering rare congenital anomalies in patients with chyluria.
- Renal pelvic instillation sclerotherapy is a viable and effective treatment option for chyluria secondary to renal pelvis fistulas.
- Further research into the management of complex renal fusion anomalies and associated chyluria is warranted.
