Summary

Suicidal individuals show a dysfunctional serotonergic system, with decreased serotonin metabolite 5-HIAA in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Low 5-HIAA and dopamine metabolite HVA levels in depressed suicidal patients correlate with increased suicide risk.
