Statin Use Is Associated with Bladder Pain Syndrome/Interstitial Cystitis: A Population-Based Case-Control Study

Statin use is associated with an increased risk of bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis (BPS/IC). This population-based study found a significant link between statin use and BPS/IC in women.

- Statin users had a 1.52 times higher odds of having BPS/IC compared to controls (95% CI: 1.19-1.94).
- This association remained significant after adjusting for numerous comorbidities.
- Both regular (OR: 1.58) and irregular (OR: 1.53) statin use were linked to increased BPS/IC risk.
Conclusions:
- The study concludes a significant association exists between statin use and bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis.
